daily you will have no doubt picked up on the fact than Land of Droid joined the Land of Technology Network recently.

Originally the plan was to have Land of Droid continue as it’s very own site however following long discussions with various folk it was decided that Land of Droid would integrate with Land of Technology and become part of a “super site”.

Land of Technology will launch next Monday (19th November 2012) and on that date Land of Droid will switch over and become Land of Droid @ Land of Technology (more on this when we launch) and new posts will cease on this site.

Land of

Technology, though very much a Technology site, will be like no other Technology site you know of today. Things will look the same but feel very different to what you are used to here at Land of Droid.

We are very excited about moving home and firstly want to thank you all for the support you have shown us here at Land of Droid and hope you will continue to support the same team (and more) when we move to Land of Technology.

PS. You won’t need to worry about being forced to read other Tech News when we move home, Land of Droid will still only cover Android – more on this when we move though.

In the line of work we do, it’s quite common to receive parcels from networks, PR companies and accessory companies however when a parcel arrived at my door today looking rather large and weighing next to nothing, I was rather intrigued.

What was inside box when I opened it was a great surprise however I won’t spoil it for you all so here is the video.

I’ve been fairly quiet the past couple of days since I announced what my plans are for the site and well, it occurred to me that it simply wouldn’t be right for me to vanish into the mist that’s forming and not give you guys a token of my thanks to you all for getting the site to where it is and for simply being part of the Android Community so with that being said, stay tuned for something we have been known very well for in our 15 months online…

A GIVEAWAY

It’s not the first time I have been here and I think that tells a story in itself. Many of you have read a post like this before however After discussing this with the main Land of Droid team I feel this is now the best option.

When I created Land of Droid I was creating a site to share Android news that I personally found interesting and to share my own views on certain aspects of the Android world.

In the last 15 month Land of Droid has grown far bigger than I could ever have imagined it would have. From a site that started out with just 162 unique visitors in our first month and hits of around 16,722 to how the site is now can only be described as fantastic.

Of course, I can’t take all the credit for getting it to where it is in just 15 month as I have behind me a team of great writers and editors who strive to ensure readers get exactly what they are looking for when they visit Land of Droid.

This leads me to my next point…

Land of Droid has a team of 11 people just now and way more contributors, some part time and some who could pretty much be considered full time with the amount they post however none of the roles performed by any of this team are paid. The Land of Droid Team produce content and give opinions on all things Android as they are passionate about the subject and about letting others share in that passion.

The team we have all have full time regular jobs or are still in full time education and yet they still fit Land of Droid in around those. Recently I have found myself struggling to find the time that the site now demands due to popularity. My daughters are growing up fast and as I work full time having time to spend with them is becoming shorter as the site grows too.

With all that being said, I have the hard decision now of deciding what comes next for Land of Droid.

Do I continue down the route of providing you, the readers, a sub-standard website in terms of the amount of time I am able to commit to the site and the team? No

Do I “make” more time and ask my team to do the same knowing that they for the moment get nothing but self satisfaction in return? No

Do I consider a site merger with another site or for that matter move to another site myself as an editor and let Land of Droid slide? No

The Android blogging world is a saturated market and becoming a name in that market is no easy task to achieve however I feel that Land of Droid are currently about 70% of the way there in becoming a name that people know when you mention Android News, Android Reviews or for that matter anything else Android related.

After considering all of the above I have decided that it is best for the site, my team and for you the readers that Land of Droid in my hands starts to wind down it’s blinds and call it a day.

This decision had not been easy to make, I have worked very hard to get the site to where it is today along with an amazing team however when we are unable to provide the content that you are all looking for then decisions like this need to be made.

I have had an absolute ball of a time over the past 15 month, I have done a lot of work with a lot of very intelligent people who know the market inside out and I shall miss the interaction from you our readers.

Land of Droid will now be put up for sale and I hope that whoever decides (if anyone) to take Land of Droid on, that they take it to the next level.

It’s hard to believe that just over a year ago I kicked off Land of Droid with a bright green and blue theme and no real logo. Fast forward a few months and the Land of Droid you were all used to seeing was born however, like everything on the web, it had served its time and I felt it was time to mix things up, de-clutter and simply make life easier for all so here it is folks, the 3rd ever Land of Droid look and feel.

We really hope you like it and to celebrate we will be announcing a giveaway at 12 noon GMT today.

OK so this is nothing new, we have had a Land of Droid application on the Play Store since the site launched and way back when the Play Store was simply named Market.

We simply wanted to remind you all that the app is there and available for download.

We also have lowered the price of our Land of Droid Donate app to just £1! So what does that £1 get you then? Well we will give you £5 off our Short Sleeved T-Shirts plus when we update our app you will get it 48 hours before users of our regular app do. The current Land of Droid app is at 2.8 whereas the new Donate app is at 2.9.

Over the course of the coming months we are working on a new & improved app which will take advantage of the new Google Play in app purchases and have a flashy new look and feel – you can see the draft of this below.

It’s now been 3 days since I attended Glasgow Android (or GlasDroid as it’s now more commonly known) with our very own Tony Parkinson. To say the event was a HUGE success would be under selling it.

I’m pretty sure you all know how GlasDroid came about but for those who don’t here is a little snippet from the official site.

Every time I use the internet to chat to others within the community, there is always a want to actually get together in person, and share a few laughs over a beer or two. A couple of months ago I got the chance to do just that at an event in Edinburgh organised by HTC & O2, it was a good night (with a free bar & a free handset why would it not be) and a met some decent people. Over the last couple of weeks the idea of meeting up again has been running around my head, so one Tuesday morning asked John from Land Of Droid if he fancied meeting up again and I would bring a couple of the guys who use VillainRom IRC. We decided that it would be nice touch to see if anyone else in the Glasgow area with a passion for Android fancied coming along as well, so put it out over twitter.

So basically it was originally meant to be a drunken day out were we could talk our wee mouths off about Android with fellow enthusiasts but that wasn’t to be, oh no…

Suddenly folk from all over the UK are heading up to Glasgow to have a good old chinwag over a bucket of beer. Sponsorship is coming in thick and fast from companies big and small. To say it has grown beyond anything I had ever hoped for would be a major understatement. The Android community never ceases to surprise me, offers of help have come from all over.

Yep, it was now an event, no longer a day out and a drinking session…

When I got to the event around 3pm (I was a tad late) there were already approximately 30 people in the room which if I’m being honest, looked loads in the size of the space we had.

I was instantly greeted by event organiser, Garry Weldon who took me to the area of the room that he had chosen to be the event area.

Once I got the phones in that @ThreeUK sent up to us and got the webcube set up it was time to say hello to some folk… I was stunned to see a gentleman sitting in the corner of the room with a black Land of Droid T-Shirt on who I later realised was the first ever buyer of our official t-shirts.

Some faces caught my eye in the event corner – Our very own Tony Parkinson who had travelled up from Manchester, former Land of Droid team member Ross Mclardy who had came a lot further with his 4 devices (and never without a Cider) and our very own Darren McConachie who travelled through from Edinburgh.

That alone would have sold me, a day with two guys I had spoke to and worked with for a year and Garry who was a travel partner to the Edinburgh event and who considers me a Miss Daisy (long (or very slow) story).

I then bumped into none other than BeeAndroid’s Alan McGarrity and one of the writers (or owner) of AndroidDoes.

This was an event full of highly regarded folk in the Android Community (I mean I was there).. people like

• Nathan Russell (Founder of VillainRom and FreeYourAndroid)
• Alex Boag-Munroe (XDA Developers and FreeYourAndroid)
• James Bricknell (Co-Editor of Free Your Android, Presenter on XdaTV and guest host on the TechFoolery podcast)

Of course that list is not very extensive and doesn’t even cover half of the folk there but it’s getting late and I have sore fingers. Lets just say I met a lot of folk that I talk to online daily and who I consider friends which was the best part of the event for me.

With BraindeadApe showing off their current and upcoming games and Jordan Craig showing of his awesomely awesome home screen, which won him one of 4 playbooks that were given away, it was clear that the day was no longer just a piss up.

It absolutely astounded me that we had people travelling from as far South as Portsmouth and as far North as Inverness for this event… it shows just how amazing the Android Community really is.

The day of course could not have been made so great without donations from Clove Technology, Three UK, HTC Dev, Blackberry Dev, CruizerLite, RapidNFC, SmallWorld, ThinkGeek, XDA Developers and last but by no means least, Gary Weldon, the brains behind the day who with James Bricknell ensured that everyone who attended went home with a goodybag filled with treats.
