Do you really fancy a big chunky lens camera for your smartphone? You do, because that’s awesome and Sony are rumoured to be launching one.

The lenses also pack a little more tech than you would imagine. They have on-board processing to allow the images to be snapped and transferred to your device over WiFi or NFC. NFC in this way is great as it will mean no ports, and fairly quick transfers (the thing is on the back of your phone).
SonyAlphaRumours say there are two models. One is being claimed to be a “lens camera” similar to the Nikon One, which is a good addition to have to your smartphone and looks to be the higher-end model. The lower end model is an 18 megapixel with 10x zoom (I’m guessing Optical Zoom as SonyAlphaRumours say it is the same as the Sony DSC-WX150).
The site also says that the sensors magnetically attach to your phone and are controlled by the phone itself, which is great for those who like to use touchscreen cameras.
This looks like a really nice piece of kit and will be useful for a lot of users. For those who use completely stock Android ROMs it seems you will be required to use Sony’s app (at a guess from a dev standpoint). However, I’m fairly sure Sony will integrate this into their phone’s software, and possibly share the code online so custom ROMs can take advantage.
Now the question arises of when the first ultra high-quality photosphere lands on Google+?
