Earlier tonight the grandfather of HD2 hacking finally put his handset into retirement. Cotulla, one of the Dark Forces Team members tweeted that for him the HTC HD2 (Leo) had reached a stage where it was now too slow, and was rife with hardware problems on modern projects.
So is this the end for the HD2? There will still be ROM development but the level of participation decreases daily and the number of devices being powered on each day will also be dropping.
The phone which was only officially supported with Winmob 6.5 has in it’s time seen Windows Phone 7 and 7.8, Android from 2.1 right through to 4.2.2 with Sense, AOSP and even TouchWiz based ROM’s. Meego, Ubuntu and most recently Firefox OS all ported to run natively. Cotulla has been one of the handsets biggest supporters, and he along with the rest of the DFT team were responsible for unlocking the bootloader and allowing all of the above to be ported.
