Rumours are that Google are planning to launch a multi player game centre for android, although so far no one outside of Google knows what the projects name is.
The new system could include generic multiplayer platform features like in game chat, lobbies, leader boards, and achievement monitoring for comparison with online buddies.
Apparently discovery of this new system was uncovered when Android Police were pulling apart the Google Glass application “MyGlass” which launched a few days ago. The Glass team according to AP accidentally shipped the full suite of Google Play Services with the new app which was unexpected. Here they spotted the back end for an extensive feature rich multiplayer gaming service!
You’d expect a variety of turned based games to be involved on a system like this and we’re hoping for real-time multiplayer games too. Obviously this is all speculation until any type of official announcement.
There is a developer’s conference next month which may hopefully shed more light on this, and I can already see myself wiling the working ours away competing with friends when I should be concentrating on something more work related.
I’m getting a little carried away but imagining games like Fifa, and any 1st person shooter running on a real time multiplayer mobile platform would be fantastic and completely change mobile gaming, hopefully for the better. But we’ll have to wait and see.
