WhatsAppSniffer Shames WhatsApp’s Plaintext

Judging by the Play Store download listing an awful lot of people use WhatsApp Messenger. Judging by that number one would also assume it is a very secure application to chat on…. apparently not the case.

All chats are actually sent in plaintext through this app, so anyone using the same Wi-Fi network as you can pull your entire conversation- all content included. That process has now been made even easier by a new application, WhatsAppAniffer. This app is only for rooted devices. Basically a packet sniffer but it has made the process of pulling WhatsApp chats a lot easier, which I don’t need to tell you isn’t necessarily a good thing.

To make matters worse apparently WhatsApp have known about the problem for nearly a year but still haven’t done anything to resolve it. Word of this was first reported in May 2011, and it would appear WhatsApp have done nothing but ignore the complaint each time it has risen up since. You’d think with such a popular app they could offer some better security for there users seeing as there are so many of them.

See for yourself how easy it is.
