Well i know the headline is a bit cheesy and rubbish but oh well. Anyway, Vodafone are going to be introducing palm scanners to the big red Vodafone truck at music festivals in the UK this year. See you now feel safer don’t you, well you should be. 2,00 mobile phones can simultaneously charge and now with the palm scanners onboard be secure for that indivdual user that puts it there in the first place.
This technology is already used in Japanese banks and although it works with clean hands, how will it fair with sweaty, muddy and crappy hands at a festivial, well of course it will work….. they hope. The palm scanners scan the palm (Naturally) with infrared light and this creates a biometric template that should make it so no one will be getting those grubby hands on your new shiny Android (Or other platforms) devices.
It’s a good idea and in theory a sound on at that, but will we see trusting users and then come back to find your smartphone gone due to a misbehaving palm scanner or just because it’s not that great of a technology (I’m not saying it is) to use? Time will tell and The truck will be premiering at fashion shows, F1 races and festivals throughout this summer.
Question is, would you use this free facility and would you feel safe leaving your precious Android device under a palm scanners security?
