Remember when gaming was all PC based and WASD ruled the controls? I do and I was one of the old guard playing in the days of Lan gaming centres, hell I ran one for nearly 5 years. Well the best and most popular FPS shooter game was Counterstrike…. Remember it? Yeah you do.
You may or not know but a mobile version was developed using the Unity 3D engine. It’s not a port and nothing to do with Valve. There is a web version, iOS version and what we are interested in a Android version. Now this has been supported since by CS-Portable.com and here is how they describe the game themselves.
Critical Strike Portable – cross-platform online game running on Unity3D engine. The main developer is Igor Levochkin. There are some features in this game:
1. Supporting platforms: Android, iOS, Windows and others PC, running Unity Web Player.
2. Game physics, written from scratch.
3. You can play using 2G-network.
4. A lot of different game modes (DeathMatch, Matrix mod, Zombie mod, Survival, Bomb planting, Hostages resque).
5. Bots support.
6. Own room administration, change gameplay settings.
7. LAN-game support.
8. User-made maps support.
9. 2 camera views: first person and third person.
etc.
Well the main news here is that the new update is here and it adds something pretty cool. It adds Sony Xperia Play TouchPad support. With D-pad support and Xperia Play buttons working already the missing piece was the touchpads, now with this you can fully use the Xperia Play to get some of those Headshots in on CounterStrike like in the old days, this time it’s mobile. They both work, so either one whatever suits you and you can change sensitivity on both D-Pad and TouchPad, plus map buttons.
The new 1.88/1.88b update brings the following in full:
ver 1.88b (android) new multi touch detection xperia play joysticks shoot on double touch ver 1.88 (web, android) updated 3nd camera bugs fixed fixed camera/walk bugs, fixed hideroom fixed shooting lag
With continued support and on-going updates, this game can only get better for the Android platform and Xperia Play users will love it. The nostalgia got me and couldn’t believe I was playing CS on my Play. Have a go.
I made a little video with my crappy camera, excuse the poor nature. It shows the controls in action quickly and with a slight tweak of sensitivity it worked nicely.
