For the last few weeks, since HTC confirmed that the HTC Sensation and Sensation XE would be receiving the Android 4.0 ICS update before the end of march, I’ve been doing a manual check for system software updates and feeling disappointed by the same message telling me (incorrectly) that my software is up to date.
Well, this morning I checked using my unrooted, unbranded SIM-free HTC Sensation and nearly fell off my chair when the check revealed that ICS is finally available!
For the last 4 weeks I’ve been running Android 2.3 and Sense 3.0 on this phone rather than using a separate launcher. This was partly because I wanted to spend some time with a phone that hadn’t been tinkered with or modified so I could get a feel for the ‘stock’ experience, but mainly I did it so I could have a reference point for comparison when the ICS update finally dropped. I will be keeping the phone unmodified after the update to see what an HTC-flavour Ice Cream Sandwich tastes like.
For anyone who isn’t already checking for the update, you can check manually by tapping
Menu > Settings > About phone > Software Update > Check Now
Remember, if your Sensation is rooted you MUST NOT accept and download the update. The OTA update is only for stock devices without root.
