The myTouch 3G has been around for awhile and it’s been a workhorse. Now,owners of the device are being given a new software update but only if you have a specific hardware version. If you are one of the customers with a myTouch 3G without a headphone jack, then you’ll be able to get the OTA upgrade by February 27th, upgrading you from software version FRG83 to FRK76C. The upgrade though only seems to be an unspecified security fix from Google.
The notification from T-Mobile though has a twist to it: if you are one of those that have a headphone jack or are running a pre-Froyo version of Android then you will not be receiving the update. And furthermore T-Mobile is letting you know that your device has “exceeded Google’s support period” and goes on to try and compel you to upgrade your device in order to get the latest software and support.
