We all know how overly diluted the tablet market is these days and grabbing a share in it has been pretty easy thanks to the awesomeness of the Android Operating system, hell even mattress sellers have gotten in on the act however it’s always been a market saturated with Apple devices and though they still have the majority share it looks like their days of having the lions share are about to end.
According to an article on the BBC website, Android accounted for 39% of the market in the final three months of last year, up from 29% a year earlier whilst Apple’s share fell to 58% from 68% and Microsoft’s share stood at 1.5%.
Whilst this is great news as there are loads of tablets out there now with Android on them, we do have to look at the other side of the coin.
The vast majority of these tablets running Android are stuck on Froyo or at best Gingerbread with no official ICS upgrade planned and no Android Market running on them either.
It takes a simple look on sites like Alibaba to see just how many “manufacturers” there are out there and infact how many offer re-badged devices also so you have to ask the question, is this a statistic that Android should be proud of or should it feel pretty bad that there are so many terrible devices out there using (and abusing) the great Android name?
What are your thoughts? Ashamed or Proud of the statistic?
