It’s well over 3 months now since the release of the latest “Google Phone”, the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, and shortly before that we saw an announcement for official car and desk docks. These have been hotly anticipated, even at the eye-watering price of £50 each, mainly due to their pogo connectors allowing the device to charge without the hassle of using the usual Micro-USB connection. That and my generic windscreen mount is awful and does a better job of battering the dashboard than it does holding my phone in place!
Well according to our friends at mobilefun.co.uk these have now been “discontinued”.
Quite how something can be discontinued before even being released I’m not exactly sure but pedantry aside, this might not appear to be particularly big news; is it just a change in model numbers? Or is there something a little more concerning to be pulled from between the lines? Have sales been disappointing? Are Samsung re-focussing on the upcoming release of the SGSIII? What would Google have to say about their flagship being demoted?
Perhaps it’s nothing, other retailers still have the accessories listed for sale or pre-order.
Have you seen or even heard of any of these in the wild? Let us know! Do you know of alternatives with the Pogo connectors? Let us know!!
