A lot of people (including myself) are very excited about the upcoming release of Football Manager Handheld on Android. I recently got the chance to bend the ear of Marc Vaughan (Head of Handheld Development – Sports Interactive Ltd) about some questions I myself had about the game – here is what was said:
Does the upcoming game support Sony Xperia Play controls?
The game will work fine upon the XPeria play, however it doesn’t support the console style controls from that device (instead using the touch screen for input).
In case it helps to clarify the games requirements – the game will work on any Android device which has the following specification:
Operating System: Android 2.2 (or above)
Screen Resolution: 320×480 (or above)
Storage Space: As required for the game to install (approximately 170Mb free).
We’ve tried the game out on a huge myriad of different android devices to try and ensure that it works optimally on as many as is humanly possible and obviously post release we’ll be actively supporting the game to the best of our ability.
For an example of the lengths we’ve gone to – the game will happily install and play at a quite reasonable speed upon the original Droid Milestone device so long as its upgraded to 2.2 :D
How many Leagues can be selected for play?
The game supports one nations leagues being active at a time, that is if you select England as the nation you can play in any league there from Premiership down to the Blue Square North/South.
Are any of the major leagues missed out?
No all the usual leagues are present and correct in the game.
The full list of leagues available is Australia, Belgium, Brazil, England, France, Germany, Holland, Italy, Portugal, Scotland, Spain and Wales.
What will the size download size be?
I’ve tried to keep the install and download small so its as painless as possible to install on a device.
The initial download is under 30mb and then there will be a secondary download when you first start the game, this second one is between 7.7Mb-18.5Mb depending on the resolution of the device its installed upon (it only installs the graphics files required for the device installed upon).
In tests here the game installs via. wireless incredibly quickly and even using my mobile connection (4g admittedly) it downloaded and installed itself within a reasonable timeframe.
Once its installed and unpacked the actual install is approximately 170Mb in size (may vary slightly according to the resolution of the device and the actual format of its storage medium). I’d also recommend keeping an addition 10Mb or so available for use in save games.
Of course, there are more questions to be asked and we would like to invite you all to post your questions below, on our Twitter page (@landofdroid) or on our Google Plus page and we will ask it on your behalf.
Some of the other questions we have been requested to ask are:
- Will it be cheaper on launch?
- Is it identical to IOS version and native or is it a direct port?
