Qualcomm announced today that they would not be showing off any ready-to-market devices at MWC this year, with the only quad-core devices displayed being conceptual only. But its VP of Product Management, Raj Talluri, said that they would have something even better – an LTE dual-core smartphone that will be power-efficient. Now before you label that an oxymoron, this new 8960 chipset is a dual-core Snapdragon processor with an integrated LTE chipset. Talluri said that the 28nm chip would be most power-efficient processors. “All of the LTE devices out there today use separate modems and use separate radios,” Talluri said. “With integrated LTE we’ll see significant improvements in power efficiency.”
Whether or not the prediction comes true, anything that lowers LTE 4G power consumption is a win for the industry.
