OUYA Announces Special Edition Controller and Console, and Other Updates

The popular Kickstarter project, OUYA, has given backers another reason to jump for joy.

On July 31, the creators of OUYA announced that they have partnered with Square Enix. Square Enix are the people who brought you the Final Fantasy games. With OUYA’s partnership, users will get to play Final Fantasy III. That’s very exciting! As many know, FFIII wasn’t released in the US, so I’m anxious to see what that game is all about.

This morning, OUYA announced some news for their last week of funding. They are going to be partnering with VEVO to bring music videos to your TV. This is what the Senior Vice President of VEVO had to say:

“At VEVO, our mission is to bring high quality music experiences to users wherever and whenever. We have always strived to embrace new platforms that developers, creative communities and consumers are excited about. OUYA is just that—it’s one of the most exciting new entertainment platforms we’ve seen and we think it’s a natural fit for VEVO’s premium music videos and original music programming.”

Not only did OUYA announce that they are partnering with VEVO, but they also announced a brand new, special edition controller and console. If you update your pledge price to $140, you’ll get the new controller and console in their fresh new color!

OUYA has also taken the backers’ opinions and desires and given them what they wanted! They have now changed their buttons to spell out OUYA. Here’s a picture of the special edition controller with the new buttons added! OUYA has also said that there is no difference in the texture of the controllers. They specifically state that “both versions of the console and controller will be brushed metal”.

What do you think about OUYA’s news? If you’re not a backer yet, you’ve got seven days to become one!
