NVIDIA custom ROM support may improve in the future

NVIDIA has been recently called out by Linus Torvalds (the guy who leads development of Linux, the system Android runs on top of) and their recent loss of a massive Chinese order for GPUs has made the company rethink some of their strategies towards Linux and open-source.

A NVIDIA employee named “Stephen Warren” has called out to the Kernel Summit 2012 mailing list asking how NVIDIA can improve relations with the open-source community. He’s asking for suggestions on how NVIDIA can open-up more of the drivers, and some people have already started sending in ideas. You can follow the discussion on the mailing list

What does this mean for us Android peeps? Well, it means that custom ROMs might have better more-open drivers for chips such as the Tegra 1, 2 and 3 making systems like Voodoo possibly un-needed (as they decided the sound system would be commercial). So, let’s hope NVIDIA are having a change of heart.
