Indian phone and tablet manufacturer, Karbonn Mobiles have recently announced they will now be shipping their budget tablet, the Smart Tab 1.
The tablet runs a JZ4770 SoC manufactured by MIPS Technologies Inc. which includes a 1.2 GHz single core X-Burst processor and 512 MB of RAM. Other specifications include a 7 inch WVGA (800 x 480) capacitive display, 1GB of storage with a microSD slot which will hold up to 32GB. A 2MP front facing camera and a 3700 mAh battery. The tablet supports Wi-Fi and also 3G but only via a USB dongle. The device will be getting an upgrade to Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean). It was released initially with Android 4.0.3 in April this year and is one of the first to offer the upgrade to 4.1.
The tablet costs around $125 dollars and is already available for purchase. The specifications aren’t the most up to date but for the cost it certainly isn’t bad fro someone who primarily wants a tablet to read e-books or just watch the odd video here and there.
