Remember OnLive? OnLive is an online gaming source that allows users to participate in a more social environment. OnLive has recently partnered up with OUYA (the very popular Kickstarter project) and Vizio’s Co-Star in an attempt to bring more gaming to the masses. Despite all of OnLive’s most recent triumphs, it might be a very bad day for them.
Rumors state that OnLive has laid off its entire staff this morning. Mashable says:
“According to a source close to the situation, the company called an all hands meeting at 10am PDT, at which the entire staff was fired. Some staffers may be rehired as the company transitions to its next unknown iteration.”
This could be very bad for OnLive. It’s obvious that you can’t run a company without any staff. However, this news has yet to be confirmed. After some digging around, I found an article from Joystiq. They went straight to the source and asked about the death of OnLive. Joystiq stated:
“Director of Corporate Communications Brian Jaquet replied to us with a blunt denial: “We don’t respond to rumors, but of course not.”
So, there you have it folks. The rumors of OnLive’s demise are proving to be false. Now, I wonder where the layoff rumors came from, and if in fact there were layoffs this morning. I guess we will just have to wait until OnLive addresses it themselves.
