Insta-what?

I do apologise this is more of a rant than anything, but feel the need to air my view, so here goes….

There are a few other people of the same persuasion as me, but not enough and I have to ask is it just me that doesn’t get what the fuss surrounding Instagram is? Yesterday, one day after it’s android release it hit 1 million downloads! From what I’ve been told and from reading the description on Play Store you have the ability to add a variety of filters to images you have captured on your mobile, and then share them in a “simple” photo stream which friends or fellow users can view.

I’m sorry but I am clearly missing what is so great about this concept. If I want to edit a photo on my phone I can, via the built in image editor, which supports as many if not more effects, and if I really want people to see them I can share via Facebook, Twitter, G+ or whatever! This is just what I see as another unnecessary way to social network by picking up on the simple concept of photo sharing. I find this easy enough to do through my Twitter which is then linked to my Facebook, so why do I need a third party app to do the same?

I installed it and pretty much feel the same way. It’s not as cool as I’ve heard. LOL

I’m in the same boat. I spent about 30 minutes yesterday in a heated discussion on Twitter over the benefits, or lack thereof, of using Instagram. I’m still not clear on how it’s *better* than what you mention above. Apparently I’m just not in the know.

There are actually far more people on the ‘Let’s hate on instagram’ train than there are off it.

From your article it appears as though you haven’t even tried it. Instead, it seems you’ve merely jumped on the bandwagon.

Is it worthy of the hype it has received? Probably not. Is it a pile of crap? Definitely not.

You should give it a real test, then post an actual article on it, rather than what appears to be a mindless rant.

I like Instagram, it’s just for a specific group of people I think tbh. I remember following it from it was in extreme private beta (one of the Twitter crew was one of the private beta testers I think) before I even had a smartphone :’)

I, like many others it seems, was skeptical and curious at the same time about Instagram.
I’d seen the filtered photos friends had posted on facebook a hundred times before and was far from impressed with what I saw.
I have over 20 different photo apps installed on my phone, which together allow me to do pretty much everything I ever did with Photoshop on my PC.
What Instagram does well is the social side of things. Sure EyeEm and other apps offer the same thing but my friends aren’t using EyeEm nor are they using Google+. Not religiously like they do Facebook and Instagram.
If you want filters and artistic control look elsewhere. If you want social feedback without enoying status uppdates regarding how ‘horny’ or ‘in love’ acquaintences are you should enjoy Instagram.
