Siri was a huge selling point of the iPhone 4S, and Google has been working on a competitor since last year and it was called Majel. Now this project is being called Google Assistant, and Google is stepping up their game.
Voice search isn’t something new to Android but with Siri being much more personal Google needs to compete with that. According to TechCrunch Google is working on three big things for Google Assistant :
- Get the world’s knowledge into a format a computer can understand.
- Create a personalization layer — Experiments like Google +1 and Google+ are Google’s way of gathering data on precisely how people interact with content.
- Build a mobile, voice-centered “Do engine” (‘Assistant’) that’s less about returning search results and more about accomplishing real-life goals.
Google will Open Source Assistant allowing developers to build it into their applications, programs, and browsers to take advantage of it the most they can. It is rumoured that we will see this sometime in Q4 of 2012.
