Glitch with Google Maps 6.1.0 Update on Honeycomb

When you’re a developer you cringe looking through your thread and seeing users reporting issues. Recently, one of the users of my HTC EVO View 4G ROM reported that for the past two releases Google Navigation would force close every single time upon opening it. I tested it on my rom and confirmed it was force closing. I then flashed an older version of my rom (containing an older Google Maps version) and navigation worked fine. I fired up the market and downloaded the 6.1.0 update. After the update when I would try to open up navigation it would force close every single time. Click past the break for more on this troubleshooting exercise.

So what do I do? Grab another device to test it on, but of course. I pick up my OG Transformer and fire up Navigation. It works fine. I then install the update and sure enough Navigation starts force closing on me. I get a hold of Jeremy Meiss on gtalk and have him test it. He discovered that after the update Navigation will indeed force close when accessed through the app drawer icon but will work fine when Navigation is opened through the Google Maps app.

I believe the issue is only limited to Honeycomb devices as I haven’t experienced it on my Galaxy S II running Gingerbread.  So it seems the 6.1.0 update has brought about a little annoying glitch for Honeycomb users.
