Get Some of the Galaxy S III Software Features on Different Devices

Since I got the Samsung Galaxy S III I have grown to love a couple of the new features in TouchWiz. Now let me first say I usually HATE TW and can’t wait to get an AOSP based rom on my Samsung devices, but some of the software features in the GS3 have made me keep TW around and actually find quite useful. The most useful one is the Smart Stay feature which uses the front facing camera to detect if you are looking at the screen and if so will keep the screen on. Another one I really love is the Pop up play feature which allows you to have a video pop up window playing but allows you to use your phone as normal as it’s playing.

I recently tried the CM10 preview and have to say of all the new TW features I missed these two the most. So I started looking for ports or replacements. I was surprised to find a few apps that did both functions.

Smart Stay like apps:

ISeeYou(free and paid)

Smart Stay Ex(free and paid)

I have not had too much time to play with either of these apps so I cant comment which is better. Try them both and decide. Leave a comment as to which you think is better!

Pop-up Play like apps:

Super Video Floating(free)

Stick It!($1.79)

Floating Player Beta($.99)

I have spent a little bit of time playing with each. Super Video Floating and Stick it! are very similar. They both seem to have the same video quality on video playback (not the greatest especially if you re size the video) and both seemed to play various formats pretty well on different devices tried (Galaxy S III, Asus Prime)

I have to give the best picture quality to the Floating Player Beta though. It looked just as good as the Samsung version. The only issue I had with it was it didn’t play some videos on my Asus Transformer Prime. They just wouldn’t play. The same videos however played flawlessly on my Galaxy S III.

So if you have been wanting to have some of the software features in the Galaxy S III or are like me, Have a GS3 went AOSP and miss a couple of the TW features give one of these apps a try :)
