Having ran out of new games to play today I decided to have a browse through The Play Store and found Killer Bean Unleashed. Of course when you find a game about a killer that’s anything other than a human, you have to download it! From Killer Bean Studios, at a cost of nothing, taking up 40.58mb of storage and based on the film Killer Bean Forever this game is worth downloading, even if only for a means of passing the time.
There are three modes of play in the game: Story mode, mega mode and survival mode. You are an ex-assassin bean who used to work for a secret agency until they tried to kill you and now you want revenge.
Upon first impression the game looks great for a standard side scrolling platform based shooter. Graphics are pretty good compared to what you would expect from a platform game and run pretty smoothly. As for the control system it is a fairly simple layout and works pretty effectively. The buttons can be moved around and placed wherever you want on the screen, not that there is anything wrong with the original layout. The only issue I had with this is that you can’t change the angle of your shooting whereas the CPU beans can giving you a severe disadvantage.
There are several different kinds of ammo the bean can use which can be unlocked by using cold coins earned at the end of the levels. The more skill you use the bigger the reward you get. Sadly you actually have to remember to hit the ‘Award Gold Coins’ button to earn the coins otherwise you don’t get them. To me the need to claim you reward seems like an unessential feature, why can’t they just be automatically given? If you are feeling like your struggling you can purchase gold coins via an ingame purchase but again I don’t see that you would really need to as you can replay levels if you need to get yourself more coins for better ammo.
If you truly want to enjoy this game then you need to enjoy mindlessly shooting at beans because that its all there is to it. Once you get past the initial novelty value of the game it does become a bit dull and there isn’t a lot of strategy to the game… You just need to avoid getting shot at. All in all it’s a reasonably good game for a B movie spin off.
