A long time ago in technology terms, there was an app called G-NetSpeed. This app allowed you to monitor your network (as opposed to it being the other way around) for quality and testing purposes. The developer, XDA Forum Member gyokov has decided that his useful little app required an update. So, he did what any good developer trying to undergo self preservation would do with his work: He ported it from WM to Android.

Essentially, this app works by logging what your network behaviour is like. Several factors are monitored such as signal strength, call status (in case the call gets dropped), data coverage, and much more. After
using the app for awhile, you will have effectively mapped out the best / worst areas of voice and data coverage for your network. You also get full control of the app and are able to start, pause, and completely stop the
Please note that this application works only for GSM, UMTS, and LTE networks. This means that those of you on Sprint (in the US) will find little to no use out of the app. The CDMA technologies are a completely different beast, and because of that, the dev has only released this for the aforementioned technologies.
Using application you can easily pinpoint network problems like:
– blocked calls
– dropped calls
– bad coverage – low RXLEVEL
– low throughput
– lack of dominant server causing lot of cell re-selections and frequent service interruptions – when the serving cell time is small
– weak 3G coverage – when you have a lot of re-selections between cells on 3G and 2G
This is a drive test application for UMTS/GSM/LTE network. The application logs the serving CELLID, RXLEVEL, MCC, MNC, LAC, technology and cell serving time.
I ran this and found it to be very accurate. Gives you a great deal of information. App does what dev says. Better than gmon because of the call sequence capability.
