We previously reported that Sony Ericsson would be dropping the Ericsson name, and what looks to be the final hurdle has been reached. The European Commission approved on January 26 the takeover of Sony Ericsson by Sony for €1.05 billion (roughly $1.4 billion USD). The full plan to remove the branding by the middle of this year looks to be on schedule.
