Did Steve Jobs Really Hate Android? Larry Page Thinks Not

CEO of Google, Larry Page, was actually a good friend of Steve Jobs, and looked up to him. Larry Page even thought of him as a mentor as he took on the roll of CEO of the search giant and needed advice. If all this is true then why did Steve Jobs hate Android so much? The fact is he didn’t or at least that is what Larry Page told Businessweek during an interview. Larry Page thought it was more of a show Jobs put on.

Page said this:

I think the Android differences were actually for show. I had a relationship with Steve. I wouldn’t say I spent a lot of time with him over the years, but I saw him periodically. Curiously enough, actually, he requested that meeting. He sent me an e-mail and said: “Hey, you want to get together and chat?” I said, “Sure, I’ll come over.” And we had a very nice talk. We always did when we had a discussion generally.

According to Larry Page, Steve Jobs never really hated Android. He just used his ‘hate’ towards them to gain a fan base and make them seem superior. Kind of like propaganda. Regardless of what Steve Jobs really feels he told Walter Issacson he would be will to spend every penny he owned to get rid of Android.

Jobs was obviously too smart, considering he ran one of the most successful business in America, to think he could wipe off Android, but he thought he could fire up his fan base.

Either way the war between the two continues on and likely will for a while, I don’t see it ending anytime soon but that is just something we all have to deal with.

I started out as a Blackberry user and once that phone was stolen I went to Radio Shack looking at the HD2. Blackberry wasn't cutting it and admittedly I didn't know much about technology, or Android at that point so I looked at the phone with the biggest screen. I'm a media guy and I like to have it mobile. At that point the HD2 had a massive screen and that's exactly what I wanted. Immediately when I got there the manager talked me out of getting a windows device and talked me into Android. I didn't know much about CPUs, Android versions, or what a good spec sheet even looked like. I settled with the Samsung Sidekick and immediately began to hate Android. Probably from the ugly skin and the terrible specs that device had. I started looking how to make the device better and found XDA. That's when it all changed. I started learning about rooting, and flashing. From there I would go on to come across Android websites. How I found Land of Droid was through Twitter. I used #android once and John mentioned me asking if I would like to write for an Android blog. I was hesitant at first but I began to immediately love it. I am now a huge technology fan in all aspects not just mobile. Now when looking for a device I will now know that there are more to specs than a screen size.

Steve Jobs was a brilliant man. It’s actually nice to hear there was a common friendship behind the battlefield. It’s a breath of fresh air for sure, rather than the normal rivalry bashing we hear so often.
