Chinese manufacturer Xiaomi may not be know to most folks outside of China, that is unless you’ve circled the custom ROM world. If that’s the case you’ll know them as the team that created one of the most popular custom ROMs, MIUI.
They ventured into the phone manufacturing business last year and their phones are shipped with MIUI’s version of Android, which is full of eye candy and lots of customizable options. It seems that they have achieved great success as they just released H1 2012 (half year) earnings attesting the growing popularity of the device manufacturer in the largest market in the world, China.
As a consumer, these should mean great things to us. It’s proof that competition is about to get more interesting once these small manufactures expand their reach to countries in Europe and the Americas. Hopefully, they can give Samsung, HTC and the other big guys a run for their money in these markets by bringing evolution, innovation and better pricing.
