Asus Will Be Giving Prime Owners A GPS Dongle To Fix GPS On TF201

By now everyone knows about the fact that Asus released a device with flawed GPS and flawed Wi-Fi (reported by some, mine is fine) but now they are looking to fix it. Looks like by Mid-April there will be release of a free GPS Dongle for current prime customers that will fit flush against the bottom of the prime that plugs into the proprietary charger port. The Dongle will supposedly look like the dock hinge, and will come in matching colors to fit the prime. All this information was given out in a leaked email on XDA and confirmed by an alleged tester of the dongle.

Quotes from Email:

We will be releasing a dongle shortly that will address the GPS function and be a fully usable GPS that will lock onto many satellites and keep their lock with wi-fi active.

GPS dongle will be provided for free when it arrives. ETA is mid April for this and we are setting up a process for it. We will inform you once the process is complete and the dongles here.
It will look similar to the hinge from the dock. Where it will be a flush fit on the bottom of the unit if held in landscape matching the color of your Prime chassis.

Quotes from tester:

well the cat is out of the bag now. I can confirm this also. was supposed to be a secret..lmfao
I’m one of the people Asus has testing it out

The dongle is very cool though. very minimalistic and made to look like part of the prime.

Know we have this picture posted even more confirming the dongle:

Looks like this will be Asus’ way to cover up their GPS mess and fact is I don’t even really need the dongle and feel like it’s going to get in the way. First of all it’s something I have to attach to my prime. Also, it’s something that will interfere with plugging the dock in. I will hold back full opinions until I actually see it.

I started out as a Blackberry user and once that phone was stolen I went to Radio Shack looking at the HD2. Blackberry wasn't cutting it and admittedly I didn't know much about technology, or Android at that point so I looked at the phone with the biggest screen. I'm a media guy and I like to have it mobile. At that point the HD2 had a massive screen and that's exactly what I wanted. Immediately when I got there the manager talked me out of getting a windows device and talked me into Android. I didn't know much about CPUs, Android versions, or what a good spec sheet even looked like. I settled with the Samsung Sidekick and immediately began to hate Android. Probably from the ugly skin and the terrible specs that device had. I started looking how to make the device better and found XDA. That's when it all changed. I started learning about rooting, and flashing. From there I would go on to come across Android websites. How I found Land of Droid was through Twitter. I used #android once and John mentioned me asking if I would like to write for an Android blog. I was hesitant at first but I began to immediately love it. I am now a huge technology fan in all aspects not just mobile. Now when looking for a device I will now know that there are more to specs than a screen size.
