App Review: vYou

vYou is a nice and simple website which allows you to ask people questions and they respond to you with a video. Now, they have an Android application out which means we can take our connection to vYou completely mobile. The app appears to be fully featured, bringing all of the expected feature set.

You are first of all presented with the main interface:

It’s very simplistic, providing everything you would want in the application, however it isn’t 100% in the Android style as I would like to see the Android sliding tabs, but this is something for vYou to work on.

The interface for profiles is really good, following what you would expect, and because of the small screen size you can easily hide the video with the slider. The bottom tabs don’t look well space out, but that’s just me being picky.

The quality of the video is okay, and is the same as what is on the actual website so we don’t appear to be getting a watered down version.

It’s a really useful app for a number of people, and is more personal than websites such as Formspring and the vYou team seem to have put a lot of work into the app making it work really well. I can’t test the video recording, as my ROM has broken video encoding/decoding

Conclusion

4/5 Droids. Nice app, but to be 5 vYou will need to make the app ICS styled, or work on padding the areas properly and make an icon which works to the Android standards, which it’s half way there (just needs margins sorted).
