App Review: Temple Run

Temple Run is one of those games which goes through a fad of loads of people using, and now that the fad has died down, the Android version has been released! The game itself is playable on most modern devices, however we are told support for ARMv6 devices is “on it’s way”. For those who don’t know, the idea of the game is to run away from these devil monkeys from the temple, collecting coins, dodging corners and more.

Playing the game is very simple, and on my LG 2X the game is very smooth, even though I’m not very good at it. People have told me that the game sensitivity was a bit less on Android, but this may vary device-to-device and these small kinks can be worked out over time.

There were a few occasions where the game would appear to freeze for not even a second, but that could be down to the software/apps I’m running, but be aware that a pause for even that amount of time can make you loose the entire game.

A good side note is that it’s fully compatible with ICS and even in the loading stages, the app sports a small preview of the Holo theming. But one thing you’ll see for sure is that the game is rather large (26MB) for what it does, meaning it seems it’s just a port from whatever engine was being used on the iOS version.

The in-game UI looks really good, even though you probably won’t have much time to look at it, as it is quite a fast-paced game.

The tutorial on the game is also really useful in getting you ready for the main game and it works really well. I can see it having a wave of additivity in the Android community.

The “game over” screen also includes how you lost, which is useful as you can learn from how you keep loosing:

Conclusion:

5/5. It’s been a wait to get the app, and now it’s here it’s actually a decent port that doesn’t require the high-end hardware. Hopefully we’ll see some updates unlike other iOS ports.

Mmmm not to be too critical this isn’t a review its a preview at best.

Now that’s an easy paragraph to read.

26 mb isn’t that large, the ios version is 20mb, taking into account the different android version an extra 6mb isn’t that much, now gameloft games are large.

    I could continue but I won’t.
