It’s very rare that you will ever see me writing an app review, it’s not just because I don’t have the time to write one but because very few apps on the market now really catch my eye and make me want to take time out of what I’m doing to actually write about them.
It may well just be me but as a seasoned Android veteran I find myself spending less and less time in the market looking for apps so when I get an email asking me to review one I normally send a quick email to the Land of Droid Team to see if it interests anyone enough to do a review for the requestor however tonight an email I got grabbed my attention enough for me to pull the app down from the market and install it so without further ado… I introduce Tagy!
WHAT IS IT?
Strangely Tagy (which I can’t stop calling appy for some reason) is exactly what it says on the tin, an app for Tags or as it’s more commonly known – a tag cloud.
WHAT DOES IT DO?
Again, strangely it does exactly what it says it’s going to and it creates a Tag Cloud on a chose part of or full home screen.
THE REVIEW
OK so I kinda cheated a bit there in saying what it does but essentially it’s a widget that creates a Tag Cloud based on criteria you select in the app’s widget settings.
There are 2 pages of the widgets available on the Tagy app which have varying sizes and offer tablet support however it should be noted that there are other versions of this app such as Tagy Google Services and Tagy Settings which offer more widgets and other things to be tagged.
Upon selecting a Tag widget you are slowly taken to a customisation screen that allows you to fully customise the look and feel of the Tag Cloud offering services like font colour, background colour, font weight and right down to what you want to be in that cloud.
It’s worth pointing out that after you customise what you want you have about 1 minute of a wait before it lets you choose where you want to put the widget (I hope the dev sorts this out).
When the cloud is created you are given a list of what ever you selected (in this case I selected all apps) and you can click on the Tag to launch the app directly from your homescreen.
This is where the app is useful for me. I can simply add as much or as little as I like onto the homescreen and I don’t have to put ugly looking folders (or app icons) all over my screen.
Of course this app won’t suit everyone but for me, I have just found a replacement app to use for my home screen.
WHAT VERSION NUMBER IS IT?
The app version number reviewed is 1.5.2
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
The app is FREE however there is an unlocker for it which costs £1.66 and unlocks what I have now found out to be the trial version I was using (please fix the App Descriptions).
