Here’s an app for you which is absolutely brilliant for it’s job and at a low cost. It’s a free office suite. Yup, it’s completely free! I needed a new Office Suite after using QuickOffice but wouldn’t work on the LG 2X.
When you load up the application you get a nice “Recent documents” screen which is very nicely laid out, if not a little pinched from iOS.
Tapping into the document will load the document into it’s view. However, an interesting concept is the drop-down menu system which is a nice emulation of the Ribbon from the newer Microsoft Office on the desktop. Tapping the icon in the top-left opens this menu which is simply a slider full of toolbar options. Here is the sample document open:
There is the ribbon style thing open and pressing on the other buttons on the toolbar scroll the ribbon-thing to the point. It has easy to access controls for the usual formatting items. They’re nice and big for pressing on a touch screen as well!
Pressing that reader button, tries to emulate the “Reader” option on Microsoft Word. It’s not a very brilliant feature, but it’s there anyway. Here is a better document I downloaded from my college:
As you can see the document by default gets put in “Web mode” so it will be readable on your device. The formatting is also correct with the version on the desktop. When you want to want to create a new document a suitable screen appears:
There isn’t many options as of yet, but I like the Pages (iWork’s DTP/Word Processor by Apple) feel to it. Next is the spreadsheets, which are a nicely thought out option:
The page is very clear and easy to use compared with other applications. The interface is responsive too, with multitouch to zoom in and out. A blank area is that functions don’t seem to work for me, but this could easily be implemented in the future. Also, the SUM and other commands which usually appear in Excel’s status bar are available too!
So as you can see there are a lot of features here!
A very good app for free! It nearly could let you do everything that you would ever need to do on the desktop! (with no WordArt in sight!)
