I normally don’t review apps, simply because I don’t download as many as I used to on Android however when an app like GNOfficialUpdate pops up then I feel it deserves a mention.
GNOfficialUpdate is an app designed to let Galaxy Nexus users know who is responsible for the OTA updates of the device.
There are essentially three types of Galaxy Nexus on the market, “yakju” “yakjusc” and “yakjuwx”. Strange names if you aske me however no on did so I will move swiftly on.
Yakju is Google’s very own build for the Galaxy nexus whereas Yakjuwx and Yakjusx are Samsung’s very own take on the software. The software itself is pretty identical however users who have a Yakju handset will (so they say) get any updates immediately when released instead of having to wait for Samsung / Carriers to push them.
The GNOfficialUpdate app simply runs on the device and lets you know exactly which version your device has.
As for the softare updates – well this is a completely different story as my device is Yakju yet I am still running Android 4.0.2 with no update in site…. HELP!
You can download the app from the Play Store now for free and remember to give it 5 stars for saving you the embarrassment of blaming your carrier, like I did.
Huge thanks to former Land of Droid’er @mr_bridger for pointing me to this app!
