One thing which is really lacking in the Android Market is a fully featured, smooth and nice looking Facebook Application. I believe FriendCaster is close enough to perfect at time of writing. Started as an application by Chris Banes (who has built some very nice Android libraries!) and bought by One Louder/Handmark. I’ve followed the application pass through different people and it has improved a lot!
The Application has the typical pay-to-remove ads functionality which I have done as I like the application. A nice feature is the ability to choose themes. By default you have a white theme, but I selected black. Also, there is tablet support which I’ve briefly used but not on a good enough tablet to give you any review.
The Interface is nice and clear and easy to use. However, due to Facebook’s limitations and nothing to do with the developers you cannot sent Messages. I also would like to customize a few bits like removing items from view. Inside the settings there is options for C2DM notifications, but they are limited and don’t seem to work well for me. You can also get birthday reminders, but for me at 10AM are not very useful.
The notifications panel is clear and simple to understand:
A few things with notifications is to clear them all in one go it does take a while to do, probably because of some Facebook hackery. The feed looks nice and clear with the ICS guidelines, unlike the official app which ignores every guideline in existence:
Posting is nice and easy too:
A nice feature is “Share with another app” which is a little bit odd, but it seems to work!
If you use Facebook and don’t fancy being confined to the mobile site, download this and Facebook Messenger to get the job done! :D It could do with a bit of optimization and laying out better, but other than that it looks sweet!
