App Review – Beauty Camera

I was scrolling through the photography section within the Google Play Store to see what cool apps were available when I stumbled across Beauty Camera.

Beauty Camers is designed to make your photo look more beautiful. When photo’s are taken especially in a dark room the face/object usually looks darker so this app deams that to mean not “as beautiful as usual.” You can use this on a recaptured photo or take one from scratch. The app then adjusts the brightness, tone, “smoothing” and detail of the image to create a generally lighter effect. You can also edit these effects yourself if you feel the app hasn’t done it automatically to the standard you would of liked.

Please see Before and After shots (and excuse the lack of make-up!)

Left: Before, Right: After.

This application does what it says in the description and does it relatively well. A quick and easy way to airbrush photo’s by enhancing the brightness/tone to remove blemishes and lighten the image. Works as a slightly quicker way of editing the brightness of an image without using something like Photoshop. However I am only rating it 3/5 as there is a very annoying ad bar in what I class to be a weird on-screen location (see for yourself in the images above) which never goes and I therefore find this a little bit annoying, and my second more petty reason, apps claiming to make something “more beautiful” and airbrushing a portrait are very close to the line in this day and age with the social stigma of what is beauty. Personally I believe beauty is in the eye of the beholder :) ….

Rant over – That’s just me personally however, other than the two reasons stated this app does what it’s supposed too and wasn’t to horrific to use either.
