Mr. Android, Andy Rubin, spoke to the press today at MWC and revealed the astounding number of Android activations per day, putting that number at 850,000. What’s even more amazing is that there are now over 300 million Android devices in the wild, and 12 million of those are tablets. At this rate, Android is activating 35,416 per hour; 590 per minute; 9 per second. And Rubin was very specific that each device is counted once, as there is a unique ID for each, and not duplicated whenever a user flashes a new ROM or sells the device to someone else. If the world’s population rate were to stop right now, it would take over 7,882 days or roughly 21.5 years to reach the world’s population of over 7 billion. So while there is no fear of running out of available customers, it’s still an amazing display of consumer activity.
