You have probably heard of Rovio, the makers of Angry Birds. If you haven’t, where have you been for the last 2 years? With 900 million+ downloads of Angry Birds, Rovio are one of the major success stories of the smartphone app boom.
The trial version contains just 16 levels, half of which are the tutorial. The other two versions offer 100 levels, the first 16 of which are the same as in the trial.
The first question on my mind when downloading – does it match up to the Angry Birds franchise. Unfortunately it doesn’t. It is a decent enough game to kill a bit of time but Amazing Alex simply isn’t that amazing.
The concept is actually similar to games like Cut the Rope – use the items provided to get all three stars on each level. The issue here is that the premise is nothing new or revolutionary.
My other issue with the game is the device compatibility – I couldn’t install on my Asus Transformer, but it worked fine on the Galaxy Note and HTC Desire. It seems that there is no support for any tablet device currently, nor devices with low res screens, even those that happily run Angry Birds. I am sure tablet support will come but for a power house of the app gaming world to omit a whole swath of devices is strange. Maybe this a symptom of the ever growing fragmentation in the Android world.
Let us know your thoughts if you manage to install the game.
