The Amazon Appstore launched just one year ago in hopes that it would overtake the Android Market, and it was seen as a strong competitor. While the appstore never became as successful as the Android market, it did become pretty successful and a lot of people use it today. Most people use it because there is a free app everyday and if you were to download every free app of the day since the store opened you would have saved $1000
Over time the appstore has gained 31K apps and here are the most popular.

To celebrate the first birthday of the appstore, Amazon is having a special promotion where apps will be on sale everyday. For the first day there will be one application on sale, on the second there will be two and so on. The first application to go on sale is Plants Vs Zombies and it is 67% off.
Also, Amazon will be giving away a Kindle Fire to eight lucky customers, more on that here.
It was a good year for Amazon but they will never gain as much popularity as the Android Market.
