The CyanogemMod team working on the HP Touchpad first and foremost are doing a magnificent job in bringing us an Android port to HP’s failed Tablet. If you managed to pick one up just as i did for the bargain basement prices of under £100/$100 than you will be eagerly awaiting to see an Android port as WebOS is just average at best due to the lack of support.
Well people it’s nearing closer and now the CM Dev team is giving us another sneak peak video at the progress they are making to give us a Android powered HP Touchpad.
On this YouTube video from the CM team you will see they have created an installer named ACME or A CyanogenMod Experimental Installer if you like, this will make life easier for you the user to install CM7 onto your HP Touchpad.
It states that it’s advised you will need only 3 things:
- The ACME Installer
- Novacom – Which is a program from HP that is used to load and run the ACME installer.
- A “cm-update…payload zip” file. The CM7 Rom file you need to install.
You also see you can boot into WebOS so it leaves it open for you to run both as an option in case you want to keep HP/Palm’s OS offering.
The CM Team also stated this below:
When ACME Installer is released, we plan to include detailed, step-by-step written instructions on using it.
The discussion thread relating to this effort is, as always, at http://kan.gd/10q2
Yours in love,
The Cyanogenmod Team
PS: This demonstration should NOT be interpreted as a sign that any alpha release is imminent. We are still working to get things up to our standards. Thanks for the continued patience, and remember– NO ETAS!
An Alpha release is not far away it seems and the CM Team behind the HP Touchpad Android port are doing some amazing work which deserves so much praise and patience from us to get right. With Ice Cream Sandwich not far away and also being open source unlike Honeycomb, could we be seeing a ICS incarnation derive from this great looking Gingerbread Build as well. Time will tell and things are looking exciting, keep posted at Land of Droid and we will keep you informed of all the latest news on the HP Touchpad Android port.
