Earlier today Google appears to have confirmed that a fix is on its way for the Galaxy Nexus to solve the mysterious volume bug.
The bug causes the system volume to drop down to zero, effectively muting the phone, when exposed to the 900MHz 2G signal used by Vodafone and O2 in the UK. The result is that the sounds for games, notifications and in-call volume are muted depending on what the phone is being used for at the time.
In response to numerous requests for information about the problem, Google issued a brief statement that confirmed:
"We are aware of the volume issue and have developed a fix. We will update devices as soon as possible."
This is good news for anyone with a Galaxy Nexus on order, and for users who may be holding back until more news about a solution is announced. The fact that devices will receive an update suggests that the bug is a software issue and hopefully it won’t be too long until it gets pushed out.
