Google Goggles is an advanced visual search app, which allows you search Google using a scanned barcode or a picture of an item. Also, it even allows you to solve a Sudoku puzzle by scanning it.
Google have updated Goggles with a lot of new features, such as continuous scanning and text searching. The continuous scanning mode allows you to search for things with out pressing the shutter button. As the image above shows, it can differentiate between barcodes, images and text. Unfortunately, the continuous scanning will only work for Android 2.3.7 and above.
The text searching is a feature that allows you to scan text from a magazine or document. The app will then search the web for a digital version of the article, such as a digital copy of the magazine. This has to be done in snapshot mode, however.
It also now shows user submitted results in the search results page that are similar to your search.
Google Goggles, now at version 1.7, is available at the link below. Best of all, this advanced searching is available for absolutely free.
Google Goggles is becoming a really powerful search utility. It will be great to see what else it will be able to do in the future.
