Welcome back to my daily app review and today we will be looking at Google+ 2.0 ICS Version. As you all know by now Google+ is Google’s latest version of a social networking site, and it seems to be doing very well, Today over at Android Police they got their hands on a leaked version of the Google+ from ICS. This was a very well deserved update and it definitely makes the app better overall.
- The UI is clean and sleek.
- Very organized and well put together.
- Useful features.
- Fast when navigating through stream.
- No mobile hangouts.
- No widgets.
- Could be better with notifications because they do come in slow at times.
- Like to see some more features such as editing a post, and +1 comments
This app has surprised me being most social networking apps usually are not up to par with the actual site but I must say Google did a fine job on this app. The app is easy to use and has a nice looking UI. The UI is easy to navigate, and makes the experience more enjoyable.
The stream is customizable as you can choose which circles you are able to see, if you are new to Google+, Circle are where you group your friends into categories. You can also choose to see people who are nearby you based on a GPS location.
When viewing people you associate with on Google+ you can either view by, your cirlces, or view by all the people listed in alphabetical order. From here you can also search for new people or create a new circle.
The new ‘messenger’ app is now call ‘chord’. In chord you can talk to one of you’re friends or even have a group chat with multiple people. When you install the Google+ app it is located in the app but also can be accessed from an app that gets installed on your phone.
Google+ app also has a very nice looking profile section where you can view your profile, about, and photos. Your friends page will also look the same. Notification are also sent to the mobile app and can be accessed from the stream in the top right corner.
Overall, this app is very well put together but is still missing some key features that could tie the whole app together and make this one of the best social networking apps on android. I hope to see great things for this app in the future especially a widget.
This is not in the market yet because it was leaked by Android Police so you can get it here:
To install you must first clear the data and cache of google+ then delete the old version of google+. After that you may install it like any other .apk file.
Here is a walkthrough of the app made by Craig. Enjoy!
