We all know Sony Ericsson’s approach lately has been to build on top of Android a very light skin so that updates are able to be implemented quicker and easier. Well, with Ice Cream Sandwich being announced for the whole 2011 Xperia range people have wondered what the skin on top will be like and not just for Sony Ericsson but for all the manufacturers skins as well.
Just over an hour ago Siddharth Sai G posted these two tweets that suggest that we will be getting a skinless Sony Ericsson experience giving us a native ICS on all Xperia devices that get the update.
It sounds very plausible as now that Ice Cream Sandwich has brought Android forward into a much better design focused nature and has also ironed out a lot of UI issues that others felt made the stock Android a little lacking. Sony Ericsson would be wise if they chose this move as it would increase sales, bring out quicker updates and bring Sony Ericsson forward more to pushing ahead of competitors.
We all want the latest version of our OS and if it only included a few extra apps along the Timescape avenue or Playstation route then it would be no issue getting those builds out quickly and stop fragmentation with SE devices from now on.
Could Sony Ericsson be making a masterstroke here if they do go for a skinless approach to Android? I think so and I hope this “#insidernews” has truth to it’s claim.
