My name’s Tim and I’m the newest member of Land of Droid.
I’ve been interested in Android ever since I got an HTC Magic in the beginning of 2010. That summer I upgraded to my good old faithful Nexus One. That’s been rooted and CM7 put on it.
My wife has an HTC Desire and my little boy (aged 5) has the Magic. He’s got a deactivated SIM and uses it for games. Angry Birds, Cut the Rope, Air Attack…he loves them all.
I’m hoping to give you the latest news, views and reviews from all things Android. So first, here’s a view…
I’m pretty happy with the way Android is heading, but I think there’s a few things phone manufacturers are missing out on:
1) Dedicated camera buttons – I don’t use my phone camera very often, but when I do I’d like it to at least feel like a camera. I don’t like to press the screen to take the picture. I want a dedicated shutter button I can press. One that will focus with a half press and take the picture with a full press. This is why I’m drawn to the 3D phones that have come out recently. It’s got nothing to do with the 3D feature – it’s that they have a buttone for taking pictures. Sure there are a few exceptions (Motorola Milestone XT720 to name one) but they aren’t powerful enough for me
2) Missing ‘Search’ button – Newer phones are starting to omit the search button. For me this is a travesty. I use my search button all the time…not really for its intended use, but for the extras. I can hold it and: write a quick message in Handcent SMS; scan a barcode with QR Droid; have access to setting in Quick Settings; post to my / somebody else’s wall with Friendcaster Pro; etc. This is a needed feature for me. Samsung Galazy S II? No thanks. Anything by HTC? Well, not anything.
If you can think of anything you’d like to see post in the comments below.
